Learn to enhance students’ argumentation and reasoning skills with fun and engaging games! In this webinar, Julia A. Simms and Laurel Hecker will introduce participants to sets of argumentation and reasoning skills derived from current standards documents, concrete strategies and processes for teaching those skills directly, and a variety of games and activities that reinforce and engage students in meaningful practice of the skills. They will discuss skills and games for students at all levels—elementary, middle, and high school—and explain a simple model for helping students understand and practice these critical thinking skills in the classroom.

  • Identify elements of the standards that relate to argumentation and reasoning.
  • Uncover specific component skills that students need to learn as they develop a deeper capacity to logically construct and evaluate arguments and analyze reasoning.
  • Discover practical strategies and mini-lesson ideas for teaching the component skills in your classroom.
  • Explore ways to incorporate games and activities into your lessons, from on-the-fly sponge activities to longer team-based games.

Yes, you can join a book study at any time during its live broadcast.

Will a copy of the book be provided to participants?
No, a copy of the book will not be provided. You may order the book at any time. We encourage you to have a copy of the book to more closely follow along with the presenter, but having a copy of the book is not required.

Certificates are provided to attendees of live book study sessions only. Certificates are emailed to all attendees of live sessions approximately one week after the webinar. Certificates are not provided to viewers of recorded sessions.
