Starting a teaching career is both exciting and challenging. Montgomery Public Schools in Montgomery, Alabama, designed the Teacher Residency Academy to ensure new, alternatively licensed educators feel supported, find success in their classrooms, and remain in the profession. This one-hour event will provide a comprehensive overview of the Academy, highlighting how it draws on the proven frameworks of The New Art and Science of Teaching and The Beginning Teacher’s Field Guide to blend research-backed instructional practices with practical wellness strategies.

Educators at all grade levels understand that what happens inside the classroom is deeply connected to students’ personal, emotional, and mental well-being outside the classroom. Although there has been a massive focus in education recently on issues such as trauma and equity, there is a clear and urgent need to adopt an evolved model of schooling that can approach the problem from a strength-based perspective.

In this session, Dr. Acosta will focus heavily on the Professional Learning Community and resulting collaborative teams process designed to support the work of a High Reliability School. Participants will not only explore how to install high functioning collaborative teams, but they will also discuss ways to monitor and give feedback to teams. Participants will be given examples of implementation and practice.
