Effective teaching is a complex but critical endeavor. During this event, hosted by Ottumwa Community Schools, educators of all levels—from teachers to superintendents and principals—will gain tools and strategies to improve their practice in ways that directly support Career and Technical Education (CTE).

This workshop will provide you with practical applications and strategies that strengthen both academic and technical instruction in lasting ways, helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed for success in college, career, and life.

Discussion and learning will focus on the importance of a common language for talking about instruction and a framework for effective teaching using The New Art and Science of Teaching (NASOT) as a guide. This framework provides research-based strategies that CTE educators can use to elevate student engagement, personalize learning, and align instruction to CTE standards.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the importance of a common language of instruction and a framework for effective teaching in CTE settings.
  • Discover instructional strategies that increase effectiveness and engagement in hands-on, project-based environments.
  • Learn to design learning experiences that connect academic content with real-world application.
  • Engage with CTE and academic colleagues from across the country to collaborate and learn together.
