Solutions for Standards-Based Grading Virtual Workshop

Standards-based grading is more than tweaking an existing grading system. Rather, it’s a revolution of existing curriculum, assessment, and reporting practices that, for leaders, are the most transformational initiative they lead. In this virtual training, we will walk teams of leaders and teachers through thoughtful and practical implementation of each element of an effective standards-based grading system—highlighting the potential pitfalls, opportunities, and challenges.

Learning Outcomes

  • Learn the rationale and process for prioritizing standards.
  • Discover the what, why, and how of proficiency scale development.
  • Investigate how to create, refine, or be a consumer of quality classroom-based assessments.
  • Explore ways to figure meaningful grades.
  • Examine approaches for grading exceptional learners.
  • Discuss practical considerations for leading this transformational work at your school or district.
  • Connect standards-based grading to the bigger picture of school reform.

Hear from our attendees

“This workshop supported decisions that we have already made. It provided a process for "our missing link" (proficiency scales) as we move to standards-based grading.”

Lisa DeLacey, Title I reading specialist, Parker-Varney Elementary, New Hampshire

“As an ELA teacher, priority standards have eluded me. I finally understand them. I’m excited to create proficiency scales with my students.”

Melanie Weitz, eighth-grade ELA teacher, McKeel Academy of Technology, Florida

“Excellent workshop taught right. Amazing content that can absolutely revolutionize my teaching, school, and district.”

Nic Von Hoene, teacher, Smith Middle School, North Carolina

“The most valuable aspect of the workshop was breaking it down and helping me understand how to take what I already do, how to teach what I teach, and adjust it to help my students grow. Priority standards and proficiency scales are AWESOME!”

Emily Backes, teacher, South McKeel Academy, Florida
