Sam Fritz is a curriculum designer at Center Grove Community Schools in Greenwood, Indiana. His 21-year educational career includes work at middle and high schools as a teacher, department chair, and trainer. As a district-level trainer of teachers and administrators, Sam facilitates workshops in leadership, best practice, classroom management, technology integration, and teacher effectiveness.
Sam serves as lead facilitator for the Center Grove Teacher Leadership Exploration and Development (tLead) Academy, a four-day teacher workshop on impactful leadership and communication skills geared toward developing more collaborative teams. Nearly 100 teachers at Center Grove have been trained in this intensive leadership curriculum over the past four years to enhance the work within Center Grove’s PLC model.
In his 13 years with the Center Grove district, Sam has twice been named Center Grove Middle School Central’s Teacher of the Year. He is a repeat presenter at state and national conferences on topics including large ensemble best-practice techniques, creating collaborative teams, implementing effective team strategies, teacher effectiveness, using proficiency scales, and one-to-one technology application in the classroom. In 2015, Sam presented at the American Middle Level Educators National Conference on applying highly effective teaching techniques in the large performance ensemble.
Sam is also the director of bands and the music department chairperson at Center Grove Middle School Central. In 2016, the Center Grove Middle School Central Concert Band was a featured middle school ensemble at the Indiana Music Educators Annual Conference.
He earned his bachelor’s degrees in music education and saxophone performance from Indiana State University, and his master’s degree in music education from Bowling Green State University.
